Every time I "Open from Office Live" in Excel or Word 2007, the app freezes for several minutes and then takes me to the File Open dialog on a local drive.  Repeating the steps repeats the results. 

The situation: I just joined Office Live.  I have Office 2007 running on Vista.  I was invited to install the Office Live Add-in Update before installing the add-in itself.  Since I didn't notice this I went ahead and installed it with no error reported.  Then I noticed that the add-in was a seperate install and installed that as well.  The add-in in the Office Button menu showed up, but every time I try to "Sign In as Andrew******@live.com", Word or Excel freezes for several minutes, only to eventually unlock and open up the File Open dialog pointing at my local drive.  Wondering if it was due to the order of add-in installation, I again installed the add-in Update and restarted.  The problem still exists.

What can be done so I can open and save Office Live Workspace documents from Excel and Word?

Try uninstall Add-in or go to restore manager and choose the date of update as a restore point and reverse it.

Hi Andrew,

 This is a problem that we sometimes see when users have multiple LiveId accounts. 

1) Open IE browser (not firefox) and sign into any LiveId site (login.live.com) with ALL of your LiveId Accounts and then make sure that you click on "Sign Out".  This will get rid of any persisted login related cookies present on the system.  Office and IE will share cookies but Firefox and Office will not.  You can also choose to clear your IE cookies instead of login/logout of each account individually.

2) Click on Start | Control Panel | User Accounts.  If there are multiple users, select yourself.  On the left hand side, there will be a "Manage your Network Passwords" option.  That will bring up a dialog called "Stored User Names and Passwords".  If you see any entries for Passport in the list, remove them. 

3) Log out of Vista or reboot your computer.  When you log back in, Open Word and you should now see a "Login" option instead of a "Login as..." option.  Enter your username and password when prompted.

Do you have Office 2007 SP1 installed?  There is a known issue with the service pack that recently came out.  We are working hard to get a workaround out the door.  At this time, we are advising our users to hold off updating their Office until we have a suitable fix.

Yes ---Office SP1 is installed.

I made a quick link in IE7 so I can easily get to the workspace....will do that till you fix this.

Am really impressed with this product.  Soooo much easier and user friendly than SharePoint.

 Am tyring to build a Teacher Collaborative Planning workspace for my entire school.

Is there a way to make hperlinks work to documents on our school servers----when they are seen in the "viewed mode"?

If not----how could I make hyperlinks in a document that would open documents in the "Documents" area in the workspace???

Hi. You might to try going to office diagnostics in the word options box off of the start menu. Check for all updates, both Office 2007 and Vista. ensure all documents are not enabled for macros. MS Word is ActiveX technology, as is Internet Explorer. Save your word documents in word format, until (or unless) you are familiar with the Open XML specification.

Clean out all temporary files on your browser, as well as all offline content. Clear the history, and do a disk clean. If they freeze when they open, or go into suspension, you may have malware: something is consuming systemn resources. No big deal. They will integrate: a Word document can open as offline content in Interent Explorer, making it an in-process server. Download contig from http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals. The contig utility defragments your disk in order to make your files sequential. Don't feel like an idiot. You have a buggy system..

Hey guys, seems that microsof already solved this issue loong ago but the fix isn't that popular. I had the exact same symtomps with office 2007 + windows vista 64 that drove me mad! Then I came across the following update:

We made some recent changes to the Addin to make this and other issues easier. 

Now, when you choose "Install Office Live Update" from the workspace toolbar in the browser, a small bootstrapper runs that detects and installs the correct patches for you.  Once done, it installs the latest Addin.  Make sure that you reboot after installation and you're done!

So I finally got around to trying to reinstall the addin now that you've made these fixes (thanks, by the way).  But the install fails:

 Update Office 2007 update (KB 941637) has failed to install.

The following updates were not installed:
- Windows Vista update (KB 948531)
- Windows Live Sign-in Assistant

The following updates failed to install:
- Office 2007 update (KB 941637)

The most common problem is when users have Visual Studio 2008 installed, the presence of the "Web Authoring Component" causes a conflict with the patch.  We are recommending that users uninstall the specific VS component and try installing the addin again.

The patch can also fail if you are using a beta, prerelease, or Release Candidate of Office 2007 SP1.  The patch is designed to install only on official Office 2007 RTM or Office 2007 SP1
