I can't use my workspace

First, sorry about my English.

I'm entering email and password and signing in, the workspace is loading and sometime after I see this mesege: "Connection to the server is temporarily unavailable. Try again later." the workspace seems to load only partly.

I'm signed up as Israeli and my email is in gmail. And I use IE7. I got the email two days ago.

Hi babetik, could you check if you are still seeing this issue (on a fresh browser)?

Re: I can't use my workspace

Hi,

I get the exact error with IE7.  I tried with firefox and everything works fine.  I have turned off most add ins and still have the issue.

I tried in my home (previous I tried in my collage), I've IE7 and it's work.
I will try in my collage tomorrow, maybe it's problem with the proxy server.
Thank you.

Re: I can't use my workspace

Babetik,

It would be very userful to see which resource fails to load in your case. To display the workspace we download multiple resources and call number of web services. It sounds like in your case some of the calls worked fine and some failed.

If you can install something like http://www.fiddlertool.com/fiddler/ and see a request which is not returned with http 200 it would help to identify the problem.

Re: I can't use my workspace

OK

I tried again in the collage's computer and it didn't work again.

I  can't install fiddler because it's blocked by the administrator (I can't change the regitsry).

I'm sorry about my english again.

Re: I can't use my workspace

First of all there is absolutely nothing wrong with your English :o)

Is there any other way you can capture network trace from the transaction? Maybe other tools like netmon are already installed on the computer? There are some other network tracing tools awailable out there but they all will require admin rights to install....

From description of your problem it is very likely that your proxy blocks or modifies some of our network requests and therefore Office Live Workspace application does not work. Another very likely cause is that IE security settings too high like JS or cookies are not allowed and application does not work? Can you please check Tools->Internet Options->Secirity settings for IE to see is set for Internet zone there? Maybe you may try to add http://workspace.office.live.com to Trusted sites and see if it makes any difference?

If none of this work, do you see any warnings or java script errors in IE (lower left corner) when Office Live Workspace fails to load?

Thanks,

Anton

Re: I can't use my workspace

I can't enter or change the IE settings, so I downloaded Firefox Portable and I tried there. The same problem happened.

There's any Firefox's add-on that can do the fiddler work?

Re: I can't use my workspace

Yes, there is an add-on for Firefox that does good job capturing and analyzing traffic, called FireBug https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843

it looks like something is restricted on your client, like running Java Scripts or something else...

Re: I can't use my workspace

Ok, I add this add-on to my fire-fox, enabled it, and entered to the workspace. The Firebug detected 4 errors, I think...

But I'm don't see any log that I can copy and paste here.

amm, what need I copy for you?

Re: I can't use my workspace

Hi Babetik,

I had the exact error message as you for about a month and it drove me crazy.  What was odd was that I could initially access my workspace but a few days later found myself getting that error message after the page failed to load properly.  What I ended up doing to fix the problem is deleting all my cookies, temporary internet files through internet explorer.  Here is what I did that worked for me:

  • In IE7 I went to Tools>Internet Options and clicked on the "Delete" button in the "Browser History" section.
  • This will open up another section and just select the "Delete All" button at the very bottom.

That's it.  I hope it works for you too!

Re: I can't use my workspace

Our service compresses static content with gzip to reduce the size and make pages loading faster. There seems to be several problems with Internet Explorer 6 displaying compressed content, those problems are fixed in Windows XP SP3. I know some of you are using IE7, but it may be good to apply the recommended update and see if it helps your setup. Please try to install WinXP SP3 from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389/ and let us know if it has any affect on your experience.
