Batch Upload?

I just got my Office Live sign-up activated, and love the service so far!

My one problem is that I already have a lot of Office 2007 documents saved on my local hard drive and I want to  upload them all to my Live Workspace.  Right now it seems like the only ways to do that are to upload them one by one through the web interface, or manually save them all again to the workspace through their original applications.

Does anybody know how to do a batch upload of files to a workspace?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Re: Batch Upload?

This first beta release Office Live Workspace only supports single file uploads.  Providing multiple file upload capabilities is in the plans for an update coming soon.  One completely unsupported and untested low-level workaround would be to mount your workspace as a UNC share and use a command prompt to copy the files.  We do not recommend trying this workaround, and cannot guarantee that it will work.

Thanks for the info and workaround idea.

Having a batch upload feature is definitely a key update I will be looking forwards to.

Thanks!

Re: Batch Upload?

This is just a thought (actually two thoughts) but since Microsoft owns Foldershare, which allows you to create a shared folder and drag whatever you want to it whether its files or folders, you might think about incorporating that into Workspace which is what I have done for the sharing folders part.  You might also want to think about hiring some of the people who have developed any of the many other sites that allow you to do batch uploading and syncing.  It's not exactly like it's something new.

Re: Batch Upload?

Hey, I currently use Foldershare and love it (with the exception that it will not sync just changed items in outlook, only the full PST file).  In your post I get the impression that you have been able to link your Workspace with Foldershare... is that true or did I misread your post.  If you have done it, can you explain how?

Re: Batch Upload?

We use Foldershare for shared network folders and I agree, it works great except for Outlook.  There is no reason that you can't take one of the files and also save it to Workspace but since there is no ability to organize files into folders we don't find it convenient to do so very often.  We also use OneNote with Foldershare, which if you have never tried it, is one of the only really great user-friendly programs that Microsoft has ever produced.  They must have bought it like they did Foldershare; they work great together and are both very easy to use.

We are using Workspace to share outlook items although I find it hard to understand why they can't have a normal looking calendar instead of that silly list. Things like project planning are very difficult without a calendar to look at.  Workspace is shockingly primitive but you can link it to Outlook and its free, hopefully they will catch up with everyone else at some point.

Hi Sam...

Can you give me the steps to mount the Workspace in a UNC?  I've tried but can't seem to get it right.  I've tried various incarnations of http://workspace.office.live.com/myspacename but can't get it to work.

Re: Batch Upload?

Hi Norm,

Unfortunately since it is neither supported nor guaranteed to work I don't have reliable steps to offer.  However, since this is a fairly popular request we're working on providing a supported way to upload multiple documents at a time and it should be available fairly soon.  Thank you for your patience.

Re: Batch Upload?

Hi Norm, I haven't encountered too many peoplewho use foldershare, and wanted to touch base with you. I had been using it in my business and then I got a message that Microsoft was no longer supporting it on my operating system at work. I upgraded to a new version of windows, but since then Foldershare has been erratic at best. I've called Microsoft about helping me to get it running smoothly, but none of the people in support that I've spoken with even know what Foldershare is. Any thoughts? - Paul Burstyn
