Saving files to wspace from Word

Hi, starting to get to know the new workspace and installed the add on in Word. When saving a doc from Word to workspace, dialogue requires you to enter the doc name instead of defaulting on the name the doc already has in Word. Reentering doc names can get tedious. Any way to default to the original document name in Word? Thanks.

Re: Saving files to wspace from Word

You should only be prompted to enter the name of the document when the document is new (selecting New->Word Document from a workspace's toolbar for example).

If you edit an existing document and select "Save" or "Save as" or "Save to Office Live" (w/ add-in), the document name should be pre-populated.

If this is not the case, please provide further information on how you are accessing the document, what version of Office/Windows you have, and a little more detail in what you are seeing.  We would very much appreciate it.

Re: Saving files to wspace from Word

Thanks for reply. Working with Office 2003 and XP Pro SP2. When saving from Word from the usual "save as" dialogue you're right. But when using the Add on "go to live" tool bar, when choose "save" from that tool bar, the name is not pre populated but is blank.

Re: Saving files to wspace from Word

I see, thanks for the info.  I'll make sure we are tracking this issue.

For additional info, let's discuss how you are using the add-in for this operation.  It's my understanding that you are opening the document from the browser or from the add-in's "Open from Office Live" option.  Then after editing the doc, you are selecting "Save to Office Live" which results in the dialog appearing without any file name.

If this is correct, then I have a question.  Why are you selecting "Save to Office Live" rather than clicking the "Save" button?  It is that you want to save the document to a different Workspace, or is it that it wasn't intuitive that clicking "Save" would save the document back to the Workspace?  I'm wondering if you thought clicking "Save" would only be for saving the document to the local computer.  In fact, clicking "Save" when editing a document in a Workspace will save it back to that Workspace.

Re: Saving files to wspace from Word

This came up when dealing with an existing document in Word that's already existing on a local computer/network and a copy of it is to be saved in Live. When using the Live "save" toolbar, the name dialogue to save the existing document is blank. This is process we would use to populate Live with existing documents on our computer, but having to input the name each time is tedious.

I see - that makes sense.  Thanks for the clarification.

For the time being I would suggest uploading the files from within the browser - this way you would not need to enter any file names.  You can do this by clicking "add file" on any Workspaces' toolbar.

Re: Saving files to wspace from Word

I am having the same problem.  All add-ins installed.  Machine rebooted.   Vista Enterprise / Office 2007 - updates managed by corp. policy

  1. Open an existing Word Doc
  2. I can see the Open From Office Live / Save to Office Live options in Office 2007 drop down menu
  3. Save to Office Live properly indicates the names of the workspaces I've created
  4. Clicking on one of the workspaces brings up a Save Dialog box
  5. File Name field is unpopulated.

Oddly, about 1/3 of the time I select Save to Office Live, I'm presented with an Open File dialog box.   Clicking Cancel and attempting to resave usually brings up the correct dialog box, but again with the file name unpopulated.

Regards
