Sign In fails in Office 2007

Hi,

today I installed the Office Live plugin for my local Office software. I was really excited, because this sounded to me as a great feature. Unfortunately when the installation finished and I rebooted my machine, I could not open/save any documents on my OLW account. When I click on the start button in Word, Excel oder Powerpoint choosing "Open from Office Live" (I don't have the English version, but I guess it sounds similar) I read "Sign in to OWL", but nothing happens if I click on it.

I checked my firewall settings and internet configuration. I also deleted the IE cookies and my stored log in data. Do you have any ideas what I can do to use this cool plugin?

I'm using Office 2007 with SP1 and Windows Vista Business.

THANK YOU for your help

Jan

Re: Sign In fails in Office 2007

Hello Jan,

Thanks for installing the Add-in. Are you able to open and edit say, a Word document from your Office Live Workspace successfully? Once you have an opened document, can you check that same flyout and see whether it is updated to show the contents of your workspace? If so, you are set up correctly and we can investigate this further.

Re: Sign In fails in Office 2007

I added a picture to show what my problem is.

If only see "Anmelden bei OLW Beta" which means: Sign in to OLW Beta. If I click here, nothing happens. There is no window popping up not even an error message.

I hope I'm set up correctly. So do you have any suggestions what I can try?

THANKS

Re: Sign In fails in Office 2007

The Add-in seems to be setup correctly. Lets start with this one:

Step 1: Go to your OLW account in IE, login and upload a Word document.

Step 2:  Click on it in OLW to open it and then click Edit. This should launch Office Word and sign you into Word automatically.

Step 3:  To check this, go to this same flyout menu (the picture you posted) and see if it shows you as signed in correctly. If you are signed in, the place where it now says "Sign into OLW" will instead have your Live ID with a Signout Link and show the list of workspaces that you have created.

Let me know if this works,

Kavitha

Well, I think there is no EDIT button in the German version yet or at least I cannot find it :-(

Re: Sign In fails in Office 2007

Are you using IE 64 bit by any chance? If so, the Edit functionality will not work. If it does, you will see an Edit button right next to the Save button on the toolbar. If you reopen this workspace using IE 32 bit (also installed on your 64 bit machine), you will be able to see the Edit button.

Ok - then you might have a custom install of Office that we cannot detect. Can you try a repair and do a Full/Typical install of Office and try again?

Re: Sign In fails in Office 2007

Well, I didn't use the normal installation folder C:\Programs but instead E:\ which is my programmes partition. Might that be the problem?

I don't like the idea of reinstalling Office in C:\Programs, because this is my system partition, which doesn't have that much space. So I would have to do backups, increase the size of the partition, unistall Office, reinstall it: On the whole this would take a lot of time. Isn't there another way to go?

Which are the files need to identify the local Office installation. Will it help if I create symbolic links on C: redirecting to the correct installation folder?

THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE

Re: Sign In fails in Office 2007

The problem is neither the installation path nor the installation itself.

It is a problem with my user account. I tried to access OLW on my admin acount and on another restricted account and it both worked here, so there has to be something wrong with the my account.

Which drivers/services/files are needed for OLW? Maybe there is something I disabled, because I thought I would not need it.

Does a ProcessMonitor Log help? It was created during an attempt to access OLW in Word 2007.

Re: Sign In fails in Office 2007

We are still looking into this issue but looking at your most recent post, it appears that your specific user account may not have permissions to run ActiveX. Can you check under Security settings for IE (Tools->Options->Security->Custom) and ensure that the "Run ActiveX and plugins" option is set to "Enable" for this user account?

This doesn't help :-(

Do you know about any conflicts between OLW add-in and other software?
