list documents in alphabetical order

There does not seem to be any order to how files are listed in Office Live. The two best options would be alpahbetical or date modified (most recent on top). An options section would be nice.

Re: list documents in alphabetical order

Richard,

After already writing out a response I understand a little more now what you are referring to and I agree there needs to be a “Default” way of sorting the documents that is more under the control of the user. Even though you can sort them by clicking on the column headings themselves, it is a nuisance having to keep doing this again and again.

Although I believe my original response may be of benefit as well as it is still pertinent so I am posting it after I first post this one. However, I first thought you were referring to the left navigation, so please put it in context.

Re: list documents in alphabetical order

Richard,

This is the first response of which I referred.

Not sure exactly where you mean but I will assume for now you are meaning the left navigation area of your workspaces. I too have inquired many times about this and have yet to get a definitive answer. However, whether you are speaking of this or the actual “documents” section itself (which shows up in the left navigation section entitled “My Workspaces” as its own kind of workspace), or in each workspace itself, you do have some control, although not much from the left navigation section itself, except for showing or hiding the workspaces you choose.  THIS BRINGS UP A POINT I WOULD LIKE DEVELOPMENT TO ANSWER. WHY CAN WE NOT CONTROL HOW WE WANT TO VIEW THIS LEFT NAVIGATION AREA OR THE DEFAULT ORDER OF HOW THE DOCUMENTS IN EACH WORKSPACE APPEAR? WE NEED MORE CONTROL HERE. A DEFAULT ORDER WE CAN CONTROL AND EVEN A HIERARCHY FRAMEWORK FOR THE LEFT NAVIGATION WOULD BE NICE. AND OF COURSE FOLDERS IN EACH WORKSPACE WHICH HAS BEEN MENTIONED SEVERAL TIMES.

We’ll let development figure that out, but for now let me share with you what you can do.

The true control comes when you click on “My Workspaces”.  This brings up the master workspace list (or whatever they call it), and from here you can obviously click on the name, time modified etc. (any of the column headings but sometimes that is just not enough (especially when you have over 200 workspaces you manage on a daily basis J).  In this case, the best thing you can do is use the “Edit”, “Find on this Page” (or Ctrl+F), feature from your Internet Explorer program.  This can sometimes be a lifesaver if you cannot find a workspace or for that matter a document (from the documents section).  You can use this technique from any individual workspace as well, or simply sort them clicking on the appropriate column heading.  If this helps you Richard, or anyone else for that matter, please let me know.
