I need folders!

I have a little bit of OCD, I must organize.... it is really bothering me that all of the documents that I load into the workspace cannot be organized into neat and tidy little folders.

Hi DG,

You can create top level workspaces by clicking on "New Workspace" in the left hand column.  This would give you the ability to organize your content.  You can choose Blank Workspace from the templates list if you already have your content.

We don't currently support nested folders.  Thanks for the feedback and let us know if this doesn't work for you.

Re: I need folders!

Yes, folders are needed (badly!)  I suggest incorporating Shared Folders into OLW, all file types, with a very large size limit (say 5 GB).  Right now, to communicate with somebody about a project we are working on, I need OLW for task lists, screen shots, etc.; Shared Folders to actually transfer the database and Excel files we are working on; and Windows Live Messenger to talk about the project in real time.  These should all work as part of a single app (OLW), though of course they could also be used separately.

I agree with the folder aspect, as when using a programme of work, I can not affford to have 20 new workplaces for the elements within a project, knowing that I have 6 projects! So this would be a great piece of functionality to add.

Re: I need folders!

I'm sorry but it's obvius to compare OLW with MS Sharepoint and OLW is a nice try, but if you don't add folders you might as well forget about proffesional users like me. There is other shared document sites on the net that does this much easier than OLW.

Re: I need folders!

Folders were certainly the first thought I had on organizing mypage, but even more so, I would like to see a way to organize the new workspaces that I create for varous purposes.

Certainly, I will have more than one class and more than one project, otherwise it would be back to relying on naming conventions.

Re: I need folders!

Yes, folders are an important feature. Please implement soon! Everybody is used to structure content by folders. Without folders a workspace becomes quickly a chaotic and long list  of items. Difficult to work with and difficult to identify the once with relevance to a certain topic.

Re: I need folders!

Without folders this product will be limited to the casual user.

The ability to store documents into subfolders is a 'must have' and I will no longer use this app until this feature is added.

I would like to see an option for folders in a workspace.

Re: I need folders!

Folders should not be a "luxury" item.  I've tried to get several of my project teams (independent entities all) to use the OLW workspace.  It's hard enough to get technophobes and troglodytes to use an "enterprise space," which freaks them out, and then expect them to sift through HUNDREDS of unsorted documents to find what you've updated, instead of effectively "hand-delivering" the document to them via email.  Don't you OLW folks see the impossibility of using OLW professionally, if nested folders are not an option?

On any given project, I will have literally dozens of versions of dozens of documents.  I am required to keep those versions.  Those multi-version documents, coupled with hundreds of reference documents (pdfs of various things, for example, including MS Project, which isn't OLW-supported - could you get with the program on THAT, as well?), will rapidly make OLW absolutely unusable.  It would be fine for somebody's family page, or some other non-professional usage, but the inabilty to organize massive, document-heavy projects/tasks, renders it - frankly - worthless for someone like me, who really WANTS to use OLW.  I want to introduce my myriad clients to OLW...but what's the point if they are only going to become frustrated and infuriated with me for making their lives harder, not easier?  I for one would not mind paying for this level of professional usability

And while I realize that you are highly reluctant to support Adobe in ANY way, would it really kill Microsoft to make it at least POSSIBLE to print a pdf file from within OLW?  PDF's are totally unsupported, so uploading them to OLW provides naught but online reading capability of pdf's.  My clients can't even download them to their own computer and THEN print them, so it's easier for me to FTP them via Skype or simply email them, than to use OLW.

Come on, guys...I'm trying to use and support OLW.  How about a little professional-usability-love in return?

Re: I need folders!

Would have to agree, just started looking at OLW and that was my first thought.

Re: I need folders!

Absolutely!! Couldn't agree more.

I'm using it to communicate assignments and the such to students.

The first thing I looked for is how to organize the weekly information into folders.

Otherwise it is just a long list of documents, and really quite overwhelming and useless.

I guess if you could nest workspaces, those could be used as folders, but I don't want to have to reshare each week, that again is something I know won't be used by the students ... they want everything accessible quickly and in one place.

I'm actually surprised that wasn't the first thing created when developing this potentially excellent tool!

Please implement/develop soon!

Thank you.

Re: I need folders!

I agree, without folders I'm not able to use/support OLW.

Too bad, I like the look of it, seriously!
